Monetary System
In Harath, the basic mode of payment is the penny. Penny’s are made so that they can be cut into 8 pieces called bits. For those who are rich, gold dubloons are the next whole stage. Each of these is worth 80 pennies. Gold dubloons are typically made so that they can be cut into 8 Parts, each of these equalling 10 pennies. Finally, for matters of great importance, Platinum Plaques are issued. Each platinum plaque is the equivalent of 100 gold dubloons. Therefore 1 Platinum Plaque (1 PP) = 100 gold dubloons (GD) = 800 Parts (P) = 8,000 pennies (p) =64,000 bits (b).
In order to gain an appreciation for the economy of Harath (feel free to use your own, but I prefer a basic medieval society, with a larger, stronger middle class) use the following classifications and assume that 1 bit = $1.
Raw copper is valued at 7.5 bits/ounce, silver is 25 pennies/ounce, gold is 1 GD/ounce, and platinum is 2 GD/ounce.
